Suffixscape: Linguistic Diagnostics
Grammar is an accountability record. Suffixscape reads it — analysing language for the specific constructions by which communications evade epistemic responsibility.
The premise
The framework's media-ecology grounding holds that grammar shapes power. Suffixscape makes that operational. Where the eight lenses audit a communication's content for absence, Suffixscape audits its sentences for evasion: the grammatical machinery — suffixes, voices, subjects, tenses, hence the name — by which actors disappear from their actions, superlatives detach from evidence, and history flattens into inevitability. These are not stylistic choices. They are mechanisms that remove human accountability, and because they are mechanical, they are detectable.

The detector is a deliberately simple heuristic — pattern-matching, run entirely in your browser. It demonstrates the method; it does not replace the judgement the method requires. Density is the signal, not any single hit.
How to read Suffixscape results
- A hit is a question, not a verdict. Passives and nominalisations have legitimate uses (known agents, deliberate emphasis, established terms of art). Each hit asks: who acted, who decided, what is the evidence, where is the friction? If the text answers nearby, the hit discharges.
- Density and placement matter more than counts. One passive in a methods section is nothing; a press release whose every decision-sentence lacks a decider is a finding.
- Patterns corroborate across instruments. Epistemic inflation plus a low Scientific Evidence lens score; temporal flatness plus a low Deep History score — grammar-level and content-level findings confirming each other is the strongest audit signal.
- The diagnosis attaches to the text, not the author. These constructions are institutional house style, absorbed rather than chosen — which is exactly why they matter, and why the non-adversarial refusal applies to Suffixscape findings as much as anywhere.
